How businesses can be a part of Indigenous Literacy Day
There are many ways that your business can help make Indigenous Literacy Day, September 3 2008 a success.
Here are some ideas to get you started
- On Indigenous Literacy Day, celebrate the joy of reading and support Indigenous literacy by giving a gold coin donation and pausing from work to read. Businesses could match the gold coin donations from their staff.
- Get your workmates involved in the Readers' Quest, a great way to start a bookclub.
- Devote lunch time to a book discussion or read a passage aloud from your favourite book.
- Discuss Indigenous literacy at your work bookclub.
- Hold a vote for your workplace's favourite book (charge a gold coin to vote). Announce the winner on ILD.
- Host a book trivia event at lunch time or after work.
- Contact your local newspaper and tell them about the events your workplace is undertaking and see if they will do a story or send a photographer.
- Raise awareness of ILD in your workplace newsletter, on the notice board or website.
- Don't limit your contribution and fundraising to September 3. You can raise awareness and money throughout the year.
Please let us know what you are planning to do to support this important initiative. We’d like to help generate local support if we can.
