ILP is a partnership between The Fred Hollows Foundation, the Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) and the Australian Publishers Association (APA). ILP has a successful track record operating for the past five years under the Riverbend Readers' Challenge and then The Australian Readers' Challenge banners supported by volunteer contribution and industry sponsorship.
The Indigenous Literacy Project funds are administered by the Fred Hollows Foundation who work in close consultation with the remote Indigenous communities to purchase literacy resources.
The Australian Booksellers Association purchases literacy materials from Australian publishers and organises for books and resources to be sent direct to these communities.
In 2008 the Indigenous Literacy Project is managed by a voluntary committee, chaired by David Gaunt of Gleebooks.
The particular contributions of each partner is outlined below.
- The Foundation is the nominated registered charity accepting the funds raised through the ILP.

- The Foundation works with the Australian Booksellers Association to identify and meet the literacy resource needs of Indigenous communities.
- ABA provides communication and advocacy about ILP to booksellers (both ABA and non-ABA members) and to the International Booksellers Federation. This communication includes their website, forums, at the ABA conference, in newsletters and by direct mail.
- ABA provides quarterly reports to the ILP committee detailing the ILP generated book orders and their supply to the remote Indigenous communities.
- APA provides sponsorship, direct administrational support and advocacy for ILP.
